DESCRIPTION:Hind Khoury\, the General Secretary for KAIROS Palestine\, will share about the reality of life in Palestine\, the urgency of the situation there\, and how people of faith might engage as advocates. \nThis will be an excellent opportunity for those who have traveled as pilgrims to Israel and Palestine\, for General Conference delegates\, for lovers of the Biblical land\, and for peacemakers. \nThis event is a part of the World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel (WWPPI) as designated by the World Council of Churches\, and is being co-sponsored by the North Carolina Council of Churches. \nQuestions about the event? Contact Laura Fine Ledford at lledford@nccumc.org. \nHind Khoury is a Palestinian Christian\, an economist\, a former ambassador\, and the newly appointed General Secretary of Kairos Palestine* located in Bethlehem. She is also the president of the Bethlehem Rotary Club and an executive board member of Bethlehem Bible College. She is president of the Applied Research Institute of Jerusalem (ARIJ)\, which is highly respected around the world for its meticulous research and mapping of the region. She is vice-president of the Arab Thought Forum\, and has served as vice president of Sabeel Ecumenical Palestinian Liberation Theology Center. She has spoken at many conferences and seminars locally and internationally\, and she serves as a consultant to MASARAT\, a research center on Palestinian strategic directives. \nAn interview with Ms. Khoury can be found here.

SUMMARY:Seventh Jack Crum Conference on Prophetic Ministry
DESCRIPTION:This year’s conference is titled “Voting Rights for All” and focuses on the changed made by the NC General Assembly to voting laws in 2013. Former NC Senator Ellie Kinnaird will be the keynote speaker\, and there will be a panel of individuals affected by the changes in the laws. In addition\, there will be workshops about obtaining a voter ID\, legislative redistricting\, and more.  \nThe cost is $15 in advance\, $20 at the door\, and $10 for students\, which includes a light breakfast and lunch catered by the Interfaith Food Shuttle. SUMMARY:Documentary Showing: "Pictures from a Hiroshima Schoolyard"
DESCRIPTION:A collection of surprisingly joyful drawings created by school children living among the ruins of Hiroshima in 1947 becomes the heart and soul of this true\, inspiring story about an exchange of gifts between Americans and Japanese after a devastating war. This powerful documentary about reconciliation and the power of gift\, introduces the children artists (now in their late 70s) who reflect on their early lives amidst the rubble of their destroyed city and the hope they shared through their art. In 2010\, the newly restored drawings\, buried for decades deep inside All Souls Church in Washington DC\, are taken back to Japan where they are reunited with the artists and exhibited in the very building where they were created. \nAdmission is free but donations to NC Peace Action will be accepted. SUMMARY:2014 Conference on the Common Good
DESCRIPTION:The Christian Unity Committee of the North Carolina Council of Churches is proud to announce this year’s Conference on the Common Good on the topic “The Church’s Witness to the Common Good in a Pluralist Society.”  Mark Monday\, February 17 on your calendar.  The conference will be held at Duke Divinity School\, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.  There will be a presentation by Dr. Luke Bretherton\, Associate Professor of Theological Ethics at Duke Divinity School and Senior Fellow\, Kenan Institute for Ethics. \nRegistration is $25 (/Duke Universtiy and Divinity School students may register for  $8).  Lunch is included in the registration cost. There will be a prepared response by a member of the NC Council of Churches’ Chrisitan Unity Committee and opportunity for questions and discussion in the afternoon. \nThe Conference will be held in the Alumni Memorial Commons Room (Room 152\, Langford Building). Signs will give direction from the parking deck. Free parking will be provided to the first 70 non-student registrants. At the Bryan Center Parking Deck\, take Science Drive north from Cameron Boulevard or Towerview Drive to the Bryan Center lot\, and turn right into the deck.
