SUMMARY:Creating Healthier Food Pantries Workshop and Lunch
DESCRIPTION:What can congregations and emergency food providers do to ensure our food pantries and donations both feed and adequately nourish people who are experiencing food insecurity? Many food-pantry users are battling one or more chronic diseases and foods commonly given out at food pantries are high in salt and sugar and are lacking in important disease-fighting nutrients. \nRegistered dietitians from the Partnership for Community Care will discuss their Healthy Food Pantry Program and encourage you to think “outside of the donation box” with ideas for creating your own healthy food packages. Partners in Health and Wholeness will share about other resources available to equip faith communities with the ability to address these needs. DESCRIPTION:The NC Council of Churches is continuing its successful statewide clergy series on immigration. These events are geared toward busy religious professionals and faith leaders\, and they provide an overview of immigration issues in the context of a great networking event (and free meal). \nThis series revolves around sharing a meal together and hearing from knowledgeable people who are directly affected by immigration issues in their ministries. We will discuss food insecurity and food deserts within Winston-Salem as well as the connection between food and faith at “Churches Working Together: A Food Justice Event.”  It takes place on Saturday\, April 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Lower Auditorium of Wingate Hall on the campus of Wake Forest University School of Divinity.
