SUMMARY:Going Solar Just Got Easier: NCIPL & Greenhound Come Together for Congregations (WEBINAR)
DESCRIPTION:Learn why there has never been a better time to go solar or move forward with your energy project and how Greenhound makes it easier!  \nIn addition to covering the current offerings of the NCIPL energy program\, this webinar will introduce NCIPL’s new partner organization Greenhound to congregations interested in moving forward with solar and other energy-related projects for their buildings.  \nGreenhound is an online platform that connects organizations that want energy solutions with pre-vetted vendors that can deliver those solutions. As a trusted\, independent third-party\, Greenhound simplifies the procurement process for non-experts by doing three things: \n\nMaking it easy to request proposals for your project\nSourcing the best solutions from a network of pre-qualified vendors\nProviding comparable options\, in the same format\, within 7 days to streamline decision-making\n\n  \nAfter registering\, we will send you a link to access the webinar. We hope you’ll join us!

DESCRIPTION:The NC Council of Churches is thrilled to be a sponsor for the Fall 2019 Liberating Theologies Speaker Series\, a one-day event featuring theologians who share their radical\, culture-shifting interpretations of Biblical texts. \nPresented in partnership with Union Theological Seminary\, this event is an extension of The Freedom Center for Social Justice’s “Do No Harm” initiative\, which works with people of faith and the broader community in North Carolina to shift culture by uprooting narratives that cause harm through interpretation of Holy Text and other religious writing. \nThis year’s topics to be explored: Postcolonial Dimensions of Liberation and cutting-edge Emerging Theologies\, all with an inclusivity framework. \nFEATURED SPEAKERS:  \nThe Very Reverend Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas was named Dean of the Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary and Professor of Theology at Union in September 2017. She also serves as the Canon Theologian at the Washington National Cathedral and Theologian in Residence at Trinity Church Wall Street. Prior to Union\, Dean Douglas served as Professor of Religion at Goucher College where she held the Susan D. Morgan Professorship of Religion and is now Professor Emeritus. Before that\, she was Associate Professor of Theology at Howard University School of Divinity and Assistant Professor of Religion at Edward Waters College. Ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1983\, Dean Douglas holds a master’s degree in theology and a Ph.D. in systematic theology from Union. She is the author of many articles and five books\, including Sexuality and the Black Church: A Womanist Perspective and Stand Your Ground: Black Bodies and the Justice of God. Her academic work has focused on womanist theology\, sexuality and the black church. \nDr. Kwok Pui Lan is William F. Cole Professor of Christian Theology and Spirituality emerita at Episcopal Divinity School and the 2011 President of the American Academy of Religion. She has published extensively in Asian feminist theology\, biblical interpretation\, and postcolonial criticism. An internationally known theologian\, Kwok’s publications include Occupy Religion (with Joerg Rieger); Globalization\, Gender\, and Peace-building; Postcolonial Imagination and Feminist Theology; and Introducing Asian Feminist Theology. She is the editor of Women and Christianity and coeditor of Postcolonial Practice of Ministry: Leadership\, Liturgy\, and Interfaith Engagement. \nReverend Dr. Marsha Foster Boyd is President Emerita of Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit\, Michigan. She achieved this milestone upon her retirement from the Presidency in 2013\, after 7 years of distinguished service. Prior to her Presidency\, she was Director of Accreditation and Leadership Education at The Association of Theological Schools in Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania; Associate Professor of Pastoral Care & Counseling at United Theological Seminary in Dayton\, Ohio; and Academic Dean at Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce\, Ohio. In each of these positions\, Dr. Boyd was the first African American woman to serve. Dr. Boyd retired as an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church after 40 years of service. She is now a proud member of City of Refuge United Church of Christ in Oakland\, California\, where Bishop Yvette Flunder serves as pastor. Dr. Boyd is Founder and Chief Catalyst of Catalyst Connections Global LLC\, a consulting and coaching firm\, specializing in higher education consulting and in empowering global communities through leadership development\, training\, and coaching services. She provides personal coaching for senior administrators and leadership teams and professional facilitation for meetings\, conferences and retreats. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pacific School of Religion\, the Board of Directors of the In Trust Center for Theological Schools\, and Board Chair of the Marcus Foster Education Institute\, named for her late father. \nClick here to register!

SUMMARY:She Changed the World: North Carolina Women Breaking Barriers Kick-off Event
DESCRIPTION:The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment allowing women the right to vote. As part of a national campaign to commemorate this date\, North Carolina’s Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is coordinating a campaign titled “She Changed the World: NC Women Breaking Barriers\,” with statewide programming running through November 2020! While some American women were granted the right to vote with the 19th Amendment\, many women had to continue the fight in order to exercise that right. The campaign focuses on the fight for enfranchisement and the story of North Carolina women past and present who have achieved amazing things in multiple disciplines to help make the world a better place. \nThis is a non-partisan kick-off event held at the State Capitol with vendors\, partner organizations\, exhibitors\, food trucks\, performances\, and a voter registration drive. Come\, participate\, and learn about the women of the past and present who can inspire you. This is event is free to attend and open to all.

SUMMARY:Documentary Screening: Wilmington on Fire
DESCRIPTION:During both the pre- and post-Civil War eras\, lynching was used with impunity by patrols of KKK members to intimidate\, terrorize\, incarcerate and kill black people. Wilmington on Fire is a documentary released in 2015 that investigates the history of the Wilmington Massacre of 1898. \nA Question & Answer session will be held with Dr. Kimberly following the film and she will share about her involvement in a state-to-state anti-lynching initiative. A love offering will also be collected to help offset the costs of this event. \nFor questions and to RSVP\, please contact Campaign Nonviolence event coordinator Barbara Smalley-McMahan at 919-559/5549 or text the word JUSTICE along with the first names of those attending. \nNo one will be turned away at the door.
