SUMMARY:When Women Gather: Uniting for Positive Change
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment which granted many women in the US the right to vote. However\, 1920 was not the end of the fight for suffrage for many\, including women of color and Native American women. In fact\, women of color were marginalized in the women’s suffrage movement that led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment. \nPanelists will discuss the history of racism within women’s movements and the importance of acknowledging and reconciling history to build supportive relationships in the future. This 100-year anniversary is an opportunity for greater accountability as well as a chance to create a stronger\, more inclusive voice for all women. \nThis event is free\, but you must register to receive call-in details. Click here for more event details and to register\, and click here to share this event on Facebook.

SUMMARY:Sacred Conversations: Becoming a Trauma-Informed Faith Community (Part II)
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the next part of our Sacred Conversations series\, on Friday\, July 24 at 11am via Zoom. This will be part two of our two-part series titled “Becoming a Trauma-Informed Faith Community.” This will be a continuation of part one\, from June 26 (recording available on our YouTube page here)\, where we defined what trauma-informed care and ministry is. We will continue to explore ways that a faith community can address trauma\, and by doing so\, become a more welcoming and comfortable space for people of all experiences. We will learn from Dr. Dawn Baldwin Gibson\, who pastors trauma-informed ministries in Eastern NC.  \nPastor Dawn is the Executive Pastor of Peletah Ministries and Superintendent of the Peletah Academic Center for Excellence\, places of intentional growth where congregants and students are encouraged to process their experiences and find faith in a safe and welcoming space. Both of these ministries are culturally competent and trauma-informed in practice. Pastor Dawn will guide our conversation deeper and share ways to put trauma-informed care into practice in your faith communities and greater communities. \nClick here to register.\nWe look forward to learning with you!

SUMMARY:Climate Change and Mental Health Connections
DESCRIPTION:Grappling with the reality of our changing climate\, and what climate change means for our communities and families\, is incredibly taxing work. Those working on the frontlines of climate and environmental justice often suffer from depression and anxiety\, while more frequent and severe storms can lead to panic attacks and PTSD in affected populations. Activists and vulnerable communities both deserve support in addressing the mental health aspects of being climate-informed and climate-impacted. That’s why\, on May 15th\, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month\, NCIPL is hosting “Climate Change & Mental Health Connections: A Panel Discussion for the Wellbeing of Our Communities.” \nJoin NCIPL Program Coordinator\, Sarah Ogletree\, licensed mental health counselor\, Caleb Pusey\, PHW Associate Director\, Jessica Stokes\, and eco-chaplain\, Sarah Vekasi\, for a conversation regarding the mental health needs of our movement\, how congregations can support those feeling the weight of this work\, and how we can better cultivate spaces that honor grief while nourishing hope. \nClick here to register. Once you have registered\, Zoom call details will be emailed to your inbox. Click here to view the Facebook event page and share within your networks.

SUMMARY:Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:In solidarity with our neighbors around the world who are calling aloud from their balconies and rooftops across their neighborhoods and cities each evening\, the N.C. Council of Churches invites faith communities to ring out their prayers at noon on May 7\, National Day of Prayer\, 2020. \nWe imagine churches rural and urban\, large and small\, joining in 5 minutes of “Joyful Noise” as a witness to our belief that these bells will once again call us to worship together in the same space. And\, in the meantime\, we wait hopefully for God’s grace-filled future. \nWe know all churches do not have bell towers or carillons\, but perhaps there is a bell of some kind that can be called into service–handbells\, organ bells\, Sunday-school bells–and someone who would be willing to ring it.  Click here to view and share our Facebook event page within your networks. Ring out\, sing out\, and call out with us!

DESCRIPTION:We have a lot to celebrate. This year marks the 85th Anniversary of the NC Council of Churches\, the 20th Anniversary of Interfaith Power & Light\, and the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day! Though we were originally planning to commemorate these milestones with an in-person event\, we are changing our plans due to the coronavirus pandemic. \nPlease join us on Monday\, April 20th\, from 5-6pm for a “Green Drinks” virtual happy hour on the North Carolina Council of Churches’ Facebook page! This event will include live music\, virtual door prizes\, great conversation\, and updates from our staff. We’re even partnering with local breweries in an effort to both support our communities during this time and raise a glass together—even when we are miles apart. It is so exciting to have the chance to spend some time celebrating these momentous occasions with you and folks all across the state. \nRegister here to be entered to win a door prize during the event. “Swag bag” prizes will be sent in the mail after the event. SUMMARY:Feeding the 5000: Emergency Response to Hunger Related to COVID-19 (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the NC Council of Churches\, with partners NC Interfaith Power & Light\, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA)\, Partners in Health & Wholeness\, and Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI)\, this webinar will highlight CFSA’s pilot project to help connect farmers with employees out of work as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. \nThis pilot project will help feed our neighbors and friends during this time\, but it will also provide the groundwork for larger projects—projects that will bolster community resilience in the midst of the kinds of crises we see as a result of national disasters and climate change. \nWe know that people of faith are called to feed the hungry\, and we’re so excited to contribute to the creation of a world where all are fed and fed well. Please join this important conversation to learn how you and your faith community can support this work. This really is a moment in which we need all hands on deck. \nLet’s create a better world together: Register here.
