Preach-in on Global Warming: How To’s

January 11, 2013 by Allison Reeves Jolley, Former Outreach Coordinator - NCIPL

The 2013 National Preach-In on Global Warming is less than a month away! On the weekend of February 8-10, join with other people of faith across America to ask President Obama to address climate change as a moral issue and safeguard vulnerable communities at home and abroad.

Here’s what to do:

1) Register for NCIPL’s Preach-In: What, Why, and How webinar. Allison Reeves Jolley and National IPL’s Campaigns Manager, Andrée Duggan, will be leading the webinar. Together, they will discuss the purpose of the Preach-In, explore this year’s Preach-In website and resources, and field any questions that you may have.

The webinar will be on Monday, January 14 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Online registration is required.

2) Order your Preach-In kit here. Free, downloadable materials are available. Or make it easy on yourself and order the pre-printed kit with activity ideas, a set of 50 bulletin inserts/postcards to send to President Obama, a table tent global warming fact sheet, and more for just $15. You also have the option of ordering more postcards and a discounted copy of this year’s Preach-In DVD: The Hungry Tide, a 53-minute film about the island nation of Kiribati’s plans for relocation in the face of rising seas.

3) List your event on the map. This year, we’re pleased to offer an interactive national map where you can list your activity, and see what others are doing. Listing your activity is also a great way to attract new people who are interested in a faith response to climate change.

Thanks for taking part in the 2013 National Preach-In on Global Warming. Together, we will join in a strong moral call urging the President to take bold action on climate.

The land based temperatures within the United States have gone up recently at a smaller rate than the period 1919 to 1934. In that period the rate of increase of temperature was 0.997 Deg F per decade. Currently the US temperatures from 1993 to 2012 have gone up 0.674 Deg F per decade. This is not unprecedented. In my opinion no action is needed to address global warming, it is a natural phenomenum that mankind has no control over. http://bobtisdale.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/the-contiguous-u-s-surface-air-temperature-data-through-2012-is-the-recent-warming-trend-unusual/

Is there really a moral imperative to address global warming? It is worth remembering that saying that the earth has warmed due to CO2 emissions from mankind is a theory based on dubious proof. It is in fact not settled science. If you look at the data (not the climate models), the earth’s temperature has not changed in the past 16 years. Is it moral to insist President Obama impose additional taxes on us for a non problem?
