The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment allowing women the right to vote. As part of a national campaign to commemorate this date, North Carolina’s Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is coordinating a campaign titled “She Changed the World: NC Women Breaking Barriers,” with statewide programming running through November 2020! While some American women were granted the right to vote with the 19th Amendment, many women had to continue the fight in order to exercise that right. The campaign focuses on the fight for enfranchisement and the story of North Carolina women past and present who have achieved amazing things in multiple disciplines to help make the world a better place.
This is a non-partisan kick-off event held at the State Capitol with vendors, partner organizations, exhibitors, food trucks, performances, and a voter registration drive. Come, participate, and learn about the women of the past and present who can inspire you. This is event is free to attend and open to all.
