PHW Book Club Discussion: Eating Well Week 2 (Creation)

February 28, 2013 by Shannon Axtell Martin, PHW Regional Coordinator

Thank you for joining us for week 2 of the PHW Book Club! We hope you enjoyed reading week 2 of the Eating Well Curriculum!

We are going to focus on reading these well-known Biblical passages through the lens of the food that we eat.

Scripture:

Genesis 1:1-2:4

The story of creation is beloved and familiar. As you read and listen to it, keep in mind the issues raised by “Nourish” or the food system articles from last session.

Focus Statement:

God created the universe and everything in it. God called the creation good and gave humans the responsibility of caring for it. God provided humans and creatures with all we need to eat; however, we must take care of creation to ensure there is enough food for all children of all species, now and forever.

Discussion Questions:

1) Did anything surprise you from what you read this week?

2) How far does your food travel? How far do you travel to get to your food?

3) What impact does that have on creation?

4) How can you make different food choices that reflect your respect for God’s creation?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts about Eating Well Week 2!  Feel free to share your responses to these questions or any other elements you may want to discuss.

About Shannon Axtell Martin, PHW Regional Coordinator

I get so excited about the many aspects of the faith and health, particularly the food and faith, movement. I am honored to be a part of it through the work of PHW. I love travelling, cooking, eating, writing and preaching. I am an aspiring gardener, artist, and half-marathoner. My deepest joys in life involve my 8th and 9th grade girls small group, wonderful family, dear friends, husband Robert and puppy Benny, and the amazing blessing of figuring out this journey of life together.
