Keep Telling Congress the Sequester is Immoral

April 4, 2013 by Sandy Irving, Volunteer Program Associate

At the Child Poverty Summit in Durham earlier this year, we were reminded that 25% of North Carolina children live in poverty. The National Council of Churches is reminding us that federal cuts caused by the sequester are increasing these rates. It is shameful in the wealthiest nation ever that children are hungry and at-risk of hunger.

May our faith call us to action as we remember the scripture from Matthew “For where your treasure lies, there will your heart be also.”

The National Council of Churches encourages us to keep reminding Congress that the sequester is an immoral budget choice. Across the nation, families are suffering from the sequester’s impact. Click here to send a message to Congress reminding them that you do not believe keeping the budget sequester in place is an acceptable new status quo.
