People of faith from across North Carolina are invited to gather at houses of worship on Tuesday night at 7pm to pray for comprehensive immigration reform. Faith leaders will lead prayers for immigrant families and North Carolina’s elected officials – including all NC members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Tuesday’s prayer vigils come at a critical moment in the immigration reform debate in Congress. On July 10, House Republicans will convene a special meeting of their party to determine their position and strategy on immigration reform. Since Republicans make up a majority of the House of Representatives, this meeting could determine the fate of immigration reform.
The Senate recently passed comprehensive legislation with robust bipartisan support that creates a roadmap to citizenship. However, up to now, House committees have only considered bills that would hurt communities and encourage racial profiling.
It’s not too late for your congregation to host a vigil. If you’re interested, please email Chris Liu-Beers for a packet of materials including an event flyer.
