Federal Spending: Are You Concerned, Confused or Both?

September 13, 2013 by Sandy Irving, Volunteer Program Associate

Congress is back in session.  Are you concerned about how your federal tax dollars are being spent, are you confused or both? President Obama notes that the average CEO has gotten a 40% raise since 2009, but the average American earns less than he or she did in 1999. Does this matter to you?

Would you like to be an advocate for our country’s most needy people?  Some clarifying information about what is going on in Washington is available from the Coalition on Human Needs.

Sequestration cuts are still in place and many are hurting from these cuts, including our sisters and brothers in these stories of personal hardship. There is talk of cutting food stamps significantly, while one in four children in North Carolina is at-risk of hunger.

Are you concerned  or confused about sequestration and the new budget for 2014? The Coalition on Human Need has a user-friendly slideshow about the current situation. CHN is also providing information on contacting our leaders in Congress.

God calls us to be a voice for the most needy, those who have no voice.  How do you tell those one in four NC children that there is not enough food for dinner, in this the richest country in the world?
