From this internship with Partners in Health and Wholeness, my main expectations were to strengthen my employment applications after graduation by adding additional experiences. However, after my first day in the field with Joy Williams, my expectations have changed. Seeing her passion and commitment to her calling has made me realize how important this internship truly is and how blessed I am to be a part of Partners in Health and Wholeness. My expectations for this brief internship have changed from just gaining work experience to embracing the needs of my community and becoming a resource and change agent with the guidance of the PHW staff.
Recently, we visited Faith Community Church and had a healthy lunch prepared by Mrs. Linda with fresh vegetables from the church garden. In addition, we also toured the garden and admired some of the vegetables that Mrs. Linda had canned. It was an eye-opening experience to see the love that was put into this partnering of Faith Community Church with PHW and the passion of both parties to share their bounty with each other and the congregants.
This experience has inspired me to be involved any way I can with PHW this summer and at the very least to volunteer in the future. Furthermore, it has motivated me to make some changes in my own personal life. Stay tuned for future updates.
