In these challenging days in North Carolina, there is nothing more important for people of faith who support progressive and prophetic public policies to do than to take part in the annual Historic Thousands on Jones Street (HKonJ) march and People’s Assembly. It happens this coming Saturday, Valentine’s Day, in Raleigh. Please do everything you can do to attend and bring others with you.
People will gather near Memorial Auditorium (2 East South Street, for you GPS people) and Shaw University in downtown Raleigh at 9:00, with the march to the legislature starting at 10:00. Council of Churches’ friends are invited to join with other people of faith to march together. We will gather at the corner of Salisbury and South streets, which is in front of the NCAE Building, and march together from there. (Thanks to member congregation Pullen Baptist for the meet-up point.)
I’ll look forward to seeing many of you there as we gather with thousands of others to express our support for voting rights, labor rights, education equality, health care for all, equal protection under the law, criminal justice and police reform.
