Summertime has always been considered the best season for reading and this year we are blessed with what arguably could be considered some of the best reading material ever written!
The Vatican has officially released the encyclical: Laudato Si’ of the Holy Father Francis On Care for Our Common Home. It is a 184-page document intended to be read in entirety and received holistically.
As eloquently stated by one Catholic leader, “the Laudato Si’ is something you take on retreat, it is not a policy doc. The final chapter is gorgeously mystical, to be pondered with a candle lit.”
I hope you will spend some deep time with it, as you would with the very best books. Click here to view the entire document in English.
There was an unprecedented amount of media attention leading up to the encyclical’s announcement, and we pray the press will continue to highlight this call to action.
We do our best to keep NCIPL’s facebook and NCIPL’s twitter pages updated with the latest and greatest information, articles, and resources on the encyclical. Please Like, Share, and Retweet as you are willing and able to help spread the “Good News!”
NCIPL has events being planned across the state for September. They will be wonderful gatherings to discuss the encyclical and the actions faith communities are taking to address the issues, impacts, and moral implications of climate change. Please contact info@ncipl.org if you are interested in helping to plan an event in your area.
Whether you plan to spend time this summer reading on your computer, iPad, or other electronic device – or if you’re like me and will print out a hard copy (on recycled paper of course!) – I encourage us all to savor the spiritual messages of this encyclical, and to reflect on our own faith beliefs and personal calls to “care for our common home.”
