At the beginning of 2016, ICE (Immigration and Custom Enforcement) stepped up deportations of undocumented Central Americans in North Carolina. Last week it was announced that another wave of deportations is being planned for the summer.
Now is the time for faith communities to respond to these raids, which have separated families, imposed suffering, and heightened fears among the immigrant community. In the following webinar, immigrant activists Anton Flores Maisonet of Alterna in Georgia and Marisol Jimenez of the Center for Participatory Change in Asheville speak from experience about raids, the deportation process, and how anti-immigrant sentiment has increased in North Carolina. They offer strategies and tactics the faith community can utilize in stepping up and speaking out against these raids and detentions.
