It has been three years since 400,000+ people came together in the streets of New York City for the first Peoples Climate March in 2014, and we’ve achieved a lot. But there is so much still on the line, perhaps more than ever before. This year and next are critical in the fight for action on climate, jobs and justice.
NC Interfaith Power & Light is working alongside hundreds of national and local groups to determine our strategies for 2018 and beyond – and together as the Peoples Climate Movement, we want your input.
The Peoples Climate Movement’s power comes from people like you – taking action, getting involved and turning up. We know that the most effective and lasting way to make change is by building and empowering a movement of people to stand up to vested interests and those in positions of power.
Please take 5 minutes to complete the Peoples Climate Movement survey and share with us your views on how we should focus our power over the coming year and beyond. Your answers to these questions will help us understand what’s important to you and set the course of action for people across the country.
We want to ensure our leaders, both in the public and private sector commit to bold action on climate change that is rooted in economic and racial justice. We believe that we need a just transition to a new, clean and renewable energy future that not only addresses climate change, but also strengthens our communities and our families. We want to know how you think we can best achieve these goals.
Thank you for being a part of this moral movement!
More than anything else, I feel that the biggest obstacle to creating a strong, connected climate justice movement, we need to create stronger links between different organizations doing the work. Here in Greensboro many of us have been trying hard to do this but there is always resistance among many who see this as a threat to their power base, or turf. And they spend way too much time creating walls around their organizations and becoming insular and in-groupish. Young people will not tolerate such control and in most instances male domination of these organizations. There is always so much resistance to collaborating, sharing events, and coordinating what everyone is doing…Sorry, but just not nearly enough solidarity to create the strong, solid, massive organizations we need to push back the damage already done! Sadly too many people are saying it’s probably too late!
HI Susannah,
It’s Maple, I was with Greg fasting (I did first 3 days, then half eating – nobody else came so I stayed the 2 weeks so he would not be by himself!..it was a very good exper.) I think I saw you again someplace after that, maybe at Bill McKibben?
I am getting a concert/ pipeline awareness event(s) and want to know from you if there is a Durham Creation of Care – preferably Black – church / minister who I could contact to sing a sanctity-of-nature-climate-related song or two at my little event (Nov 4th Sat. 2:-5:). A small dance group with it is super, too.
Thanks, Maple O. maplemaryann@gmail 520-678-4122
Educate the public ESP. Builders, realtors, mtg. Lenders, home buyers, architects, designers on the REAL VALUE and long term savings of SOLAR and GEOTHERMAL home heating AND COOLING
I installed geothermal heat/AC for my 3 BR, 2 bath home and the savings will pay it off in 6-8 years. It cost $25k up front ( including two wells). Heat cooling comes from the earth via heat exchanger fluid pumped int wells where temperature is a constant 55 degrees below 6 ft. Perfect conditions for conversion to 70 degrees in our homes INSTEAD of heating winter cold air , 20- 40 degrees to 70 deg.(40-50 deg. Difference)
OR cooling Summer hot air (80-95 deg.) to 70 in home. Very efficient cf. to electricity from coalburne game plants. It is more $ up front but big $ savings over time AND all eco friendly non polluting, low Maintenance. Al Seale
