Fair Courts Day of Action

January 10, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

At noon of Wednesday, January 10, the NC General Assembly will convene for a session in which judicial reform is expected to be a hot topic. Legislators conspicuously have been weighing an overhaul of the state’s method of choosing judges. The process for decades has been through election by the voters. Progressive reforms made those elections non-partisan, but the legislature recently has restored party labels to ballots in judicial races. Now, some top legislators are angling toward doing away with those elections altogether in favor of an appointive system. Join us to protest proposed changes that would affect the independence of the state’s judiciary.

11 a.m.-noon: Press Conference, Bicentennial Plaza, 1 East Edenton Street
Noon-1 p.m.: Teach-In and Training, NCGA Auditorium, 16 West Jones Street
1 p.m.-5 p.m.: Lawmakers Meetings, Attend Special Session, and Rally for Fair Courts

Please note that rides are available from locations across the state, and that information can be found here.

Please join us for all of the day, or part of it, as we make clear that we believe our judges should be fair, independent, and removed from politics.

Co-sponsors: Common Cause, Democracy NC, NC NAACP, NC Voters for Clean Elections, and Progress NC
