Help NC Farmworkers Participate in Democracy

Every four years the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) holds its National Convention, and this year it will be here in North Carolina on October 4th-5th. FLOC is both a social movement and a labor union that works to challenge the deplorable conditions of the broader workforce that remains voiceless, powerless, and invisible to mainstream America.

To prepare for the convention, FLOC will be holding two more regional meetings across the state to bring farmworker members together to form committees and write resolutions for the convention. Regional meetings are also an important time for members to discuss common workplace problems and solutions. The only way workers are able to participate in this process is with the help of volunteers like you. FLOC is looking for volunteers to provide rides for members to and from the meetings.

August 18: Triangle Regional Meeting, location TBA (will be Raleigh/Durham area) at 3:00pm

September 1: Triad Regional Meeting, location TBA (Greensboro or Winston Salem area) at 3:00pm

Click here to sign up to be a volunteer driver for one of these meetings. You can also email them at flocnc@floc.com, or call 919-731-4433 for more details.

Never been a volunteer driver? Don’t worry, FLOC will give you everything you need. You do not need to speak Spanish. Members will be prepared to be picked up, and will probably teach you a few words during the drive. FLOC will give you a map which will include detailed directions, estimated travel time, names of members who will be picked up, and a staff member will be available at all times to answer any questions you have while on the road. Please consider volunteering to make sure FLOC members are able to participate in these important meetings. Thank you.
