On Thursday, October 19th Partners in Health and Wholeness will host our 2017 Faith and Health Summit. Thursday’s events include a community gardens and permaculture tour throughout the city of Greensboro. Unfortunately this tour is full, but don’t let that discourage you from driving to Greensboro on Thursday. At 6 p.m. that evening all conference attendees are encouraged to join us for light refreshments in the cafe of First Baptist Church Greensboro. This will give all the attendees a chance to check-in, pick up conference folders, and mingle with the other attendees. We hope this time is used to network and share experiences about working to build healthier communities and the transformative power of faithful congregations.
Friday, October 20th will start back at First Baptist Church Greensboro at 8 a.m. with a healthy breakfast to accompany registration and check-in. Following our breakfast time, we will begin our conference with an opening worship service. The Reverend Richard Joyner from Conetoe Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will lead us in worship. After the worship service we will break into our first round of sessions ranging from health and the environment to congregations and exercise ministries, clergy health, the opioid crisis, childhood obesity, and mental health. Our second session period will follow with even more educational opportunities. Continuing Education tracks will be available throughout the conference but may start before some of the other sessions. By lunch we are hoping to recharge with sweet potato and baked potato options and a motivational speech from NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. At the end of our lunch hour we are excited to formally recognize our PHW Collaborative Churches and all that they have done to commit to living out their faith through healthier lives and communities.
To avoid that mid-afternoon slump we are going to jump right into an activity break. The activity break will include a 30 minute Zumba, yoga, meditation, prayer, or Refit option. We will offer one more session period which will all culminate with a closing worship service. The Reverend Grace G. Hackney from Life Around the Table will end the day with some reflections and prayer to inspire our work after we leave the shared space. Throughout the day we will have exhibitors nearby available to answer any of your questions or offer information from their organization.
We hope you join us for this day of faith, health, and conviviality.
