Senate Health Care Plan Released: Would Make the Most Vulnerable More So

June 22, 2017 by Aleta Payne, Former Deputy Executive Director

Raleigh Report masthead

Members of the United States Senate have released their proposed health care plan, all 142 pages of the “Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017” developed in secrecy, with a score from the Congressional Budget Office expected early next week.

Meanwhile, we know it will reduce Medicaid significantly more than the House bill while cutting taxes for the nation’s wealthiest. A plan that endangers the vulnerable while benefitting the powerful goes against our most fundamental beliefs as people of faith.

As experts analyze the bill’s potential impact, calls to Senators Tillis and Burr are critically important. The Senate may rush a vote as early as next week, so please let our Senators hear from you on a daily basis. There is still time to influence the direction of health care, and a substantial portion of this nation’s economy, but only if you speak out.

Senator Tillis can be reached at 202-224-6342, and Senator Burr’s number is 202-224-3154.

In addition, Triangle residents are invited to phone bank on Thursday, June 22 in one of three locations: Carrboro, Durham, and Raleigh.

Please let our Senators hear from you on this critical justice issue. Let them know you are concerned for yourself and for all our sisters and brothers.

She has three young adult sons who continue to come home to Cary for dinner, or at least groceries, and two young adult terrier-mix dogs who keep the nest from feeling too empty.

This tax on the poor to pay off the rich bill has nothing to do with health care. This bill does contribute to population control. Insurance companies and big pharma will price health care for the poor out of existence. Lets keep long memories of these schemes when we vote in 2018, 2020 will be too late. I was much harsher in my original statements and was asked to moderate my comments.
